Weaving Networks in MAKI
(Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands)
COPE Scotland is committed to helping build connections, weave networks and work collaboratively. We have been fortunate as members of Q Health to secure funding through the Health Foundation, supporting Q connections fund to establish a Quality Improvement Network.
There are so many amazing things happening in MAKI and we already had connections there with the Snowdrop Centre that we approached colleagues in the area to see if this may have value and add to what was already happening. We were delighted when the response was so positive. We had our first official meeting in April and are exploring our priorities for working together. What has become clear already is that this is about weaving and connecting between the amazing work already happening. We also want to share our learning. To do this we shall share our story and other pieces which may be of interest for others interested in weaving networks.
So far this includes a Pixar Pitch of the idea behind the MAKI QI Network. Our first completed Jigsaw Lid for Networking which we shall use to help focus our activities together. There is already some great work happening within MAKI to map local resources. We shall also produce a more general resource lists which may be of interest to MAKI members and the wider community.
The Pixar Pitch for our latest meeting shall be posted soon. We are also delighted at the range of speakers who are connecting with us to share the amazing work they are doing. Please contact Hilda if you would like to learn more.
None of us can do this alone, that is why we have each other.

Shopper Aide Survey
To develop the type of services needed by those over 60 in Kintyre, Shopper Aide decided to find out both what was needed and the aspirations of the older generations.
While retirement age has been put back and the idea that 60 is no longer ‘old’, by many, it is recognised that some do need different services over time starting at 60.
Shopper-Aide was set up to help those over 60 to ensure that those with declining health in particular at that age did not miss out when they needed help. They have very few under 65 but some are on the cusp and getting help can reduce social isolation in particular before further problems develop.
The Survey conducted by Shopper Aide holds some valuable insights and information for anyone interested in what local people had to say about services for people over 60 in Kintyre. This survey highlights the importance of connections and the practical support which can make such a significant difference for people’s health and quality of life.

Another Tale from Weaving Networks in MAKI
This is the story of what came from the third meeting of Weaving Networks in MAKI. Where we decided that connections was an area we wanted to explore further. We were also delighted to have a presentation from Gozie Joe Adigwe the Digital Network Officer with The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE). The presentation has been included in the slides. There have been other connections made since we last met and we are exploring how to share these. Watch this space for updates also we will be sharing the updated resource list at the end of June.

A Tale from MAKI
This is the story of what came from the second meeting of Weaving Networks in MAKI where we identified the Wicked Questions we are seeking answers to and the elements which people felt would help this gathering be useful. There was a real thread of the importance of building connections and also the range of connections which need to be built and sustained and exploring and sharing ideas on how to do this is our focus for our next session.
